Abstract Candida species are the most common organisms residing in the human digestive tract, Candida cells may enter the bloodstream by direct penetration from epithelial tissues and its biological effect is associated with the highest crude mortality of all blood stream infections. The present study report the synthesis of mixed ligand complexes of Ni(II) and Zn(II) with 6-Mercaptopurine, Ascorbic Acid, 5-Fluorouracil and Thiamine-HCl . The complexes were structurally characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Melting Point and Conductivity. The 6-Mercaptopurine acts as bidentate by coordinating through atomS(6) of pyrimidine ring and N(7) of the imidazole group and as a monodentate through S(6) of pyrimidine ring only. Ascorbic acid is coordinated in bidentate mode through the oxygen of the carbonyl group and -OH of C-2 enolic group. The 5-fluorouracil acts as bidentate through the C(4) of the carbonyl group and N(3) of the 6- member cyclic ring. Thiamine HCl coordinated through the –OH group of the methylene. The results obtained from the spectroscopic and physicochemical are in good agreement with the proposed structures. The ligands and the complexes have been screened in-vitro for their antifungal activity against Candida Albicans. The complexes showed higher degree of antifungal effect compare to the parent ligands.
