The attempt to form a bisphosphine monoxide rhodium(III) complex in a one-pot synthesis by direct reaction of RhCl3 ● nH2O with dppbz in acetonitrile/H2O gave however the bisphosphine rhodium(III) complex fac-[RhCl3(dppbz)(CH3CN)]. This complex can also be generated by reaction of the trisacetonitrile complex [RhCl3(CH3CN)3] and dppbz. When RhCl3 ● nH2O is reacted in THF with dppbz in the presence of triphenylphosphine, the bisphosphine monoxide rhodium(III) complex mer-[RhCl3(dppbzO)(thf)] has formed. The two rhodium(III) complexes were analyzed by IR and 31P NMR spectroscopy and X-Ray single crystal structure analysis. In the bisphosphine monoxide complex, the THF molecule is trans-coordinated to the phosphine oxide moiety.
