Magnesium is a potentially desirable metal anode for large scale electrochemical energy storage devices due to its abundance and high theoretical volumetric capacity. However, there are several challenges with magnesium batteries, including facile formation of a passivating layer with common electrolyte materials. There are few reports of polymer electrolytes for magnesium batteries that support high Coulombic efficiency cycling. Here, we report on dual cation conducting poly(ionic liquid)-based electrolytes composed of a polyanion titrated with magnesium and organic cations. Ion transport, thermal, and structural characterization was investigated for various molar ratios of magnesium/organic cations. Magnesium deposition was investigated via electrode polarization experiments and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Sporadic magnesium deposition was observed on a copper electrode after electrode polarization for 20 hours at 80 <sup>o</sup>C, indicating magnesium transport in the poly(ionic liquid) electrolytes.
