Many molecules and materials have states that absorb and emit light with wavelengths above 1 micron.  Our ability to detect, time, and energy resolve the (often weak) emission from these states is hindered by our reliance on silicon technologies, which are transparent to infrared photons.  Recently, superconducting nanowires have been developed which can detect and time photons across visible and infrared wavelengths, finding applications in telecommunications, silicon photonics, and more recently, spectroscopy of single photon emitters. In this talk, I will describe new results which show that SNSPDs can be combined with confocal microscopy and interferometry to spatially, spectrally and temporally resolve weakly emissive species in the SWIR, greatly increasing their potential applications in addressing chemical questions.
