There have been concerns expressed by local communities and researchers that natural gas development activities are contaminating ground or surface waters and adversely impacting public health. To minimize the potential of completed pathways of exposure of human populations to compounds emitted by industry activities, risk management activities are instituted. These include technology and process-based regulations and practices that isolate chemicals used by the industry from nearby water resources during normal and upset operations. These requirements include redundant layers of well casings, wellsite linings, vacuum on site, etc.  To ensure that risk management activities are effective, regulators, industry, and academic researchers may conduct performance-based ground and surface water monitoring around industry activities. By extension, if the risk management activities are effective, then water exposure pathways are not completed or are minimized to levels that do not impact health.<br/>This abstract presents a framework to identify whether current water-resource-related regulatory and industry best management structures are protective of public health in Pennsylvania. The matrix aligns an Environmental Public Health Continuum with related risk management activities to identified environmental (e.g., water quality data) and environmental health indicators (e.g., water quality standards) and recommends potential data sources and strategies to assess the data.<br/>
