Development of new technologies for conversion of CO2 into useful chemicals can help mitigate adverse environmental effects. It is possible to use electrochemical means to reduce CO2 to other chemicals. In this work we explore new hybrid transition metal phosphides as electrochemical catalysts for CO2 reduction. The electrochemical reduction of CO2 to other chemicals is a reaction that has several steps with several proton and electron coupled transfer steps. Using the right catalytic material the route of the electrochemical reduction can be altered to enhance reduction products generation. Results of catalyst synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical reduction products as determined using GC/MS analysis will be discussed.
