The use of most organochlorine pesticides have been highly restricted in most countries of the world. In spite of the prevailing government controls, organochlorine pesticides are still in use in most developing countries. In this study, we evaluated the levels and distribution of organochlorine pesticides in farmland soils across six (6) agricultural zones of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Samples were extracted using Soxhlet apparatus and analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for levels of residual organochlorine pesticides. The results obtained indicated that organochlorine pesticides were still in use on most commercial farms. However, their levels varied significantly (p = 0.05). The risk assessment results implied low to medium level risk which may increase with time of usage.
