<br/>MicroRNAs (miRs) are short (19-25 nucleotides), noncoding RNAs that inhibit the translation of mRNA, post-transcriptionally repressing protein expression. Many disease states, including cancer, demonstrate aberrant expression of miRs, making the regulation of miR expression a potential target for disease treatment.  MiR-18a is overexpressed in many types of cancer, including lymphomas and prostate cancer, contributing to tumorigenesis by reducing proapoptotic protein expression. Heterogenous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (hnRNP A1) binds to the primary-miRNA-18a (pri-miR-18a) transcript and is necessary to produce mature, functional pri-miR-18a. Herein, we report the use of a catalytic-enzyme linked click chemistry assay (cat-ELCCA) for high-throughput screening of pharmacologically active small molecules to identify a lead compound that inhibits the pri-miR-18a – hnRNP A1 interaction. This compound will serve as a tool to study the role that the pri-miR-18a – hnRNP A1 interaction plays in cancer and better inform future drug discovery efforts.<br/>
