Galactose (Gal) interacts with proteins via CH-π interactions between specific carbohydrate C−H bonds and aromatic amino acid residues in the binding site. These CH- π interactions are also detected by NMR in titrations of various aromatic compounds with sugar solutions. We have extended these studies to sulfogalactose (SGal) using methyl-β-D SGal and various substituted phenols. Crystal structures of different SGal-protein complexes have also been analyzed for SGal-aromatic interactions. Presented herein are the comparisons of the interactions of SGal and Gal with the various phenols.<br/>
