Carbohydrates are regarded as one of nature's better gifts to the synthetic organic chemists because of their abundance and their endowment with unique stereochemical and functional features. We are involved in development of practical chemistry to assemble intermediates bestowed with multiple chiral centers and functional groups from readily available carbohydrate building blocks for application in total and diverted total synthesis of divergolides and hygrocins which have been showed to possess  useful bioactivities. Towards that end we have developed a second gnereation synthesis of elaborated ansachain using (3,3) sigmatropic chemistry and ene chemistry. The results will be presented.
