In this poster we present a laboratory independent study in undergraduate physical chemistry for the refrective index and density properties of binary liquid mixtures. It is broadly reported that the refractive index and the molar volume of binary liquid mixtures are strongly correlated. Published data show an increase of refractive index with increasing molar volumes. Correlation between excess refractive indices ( nE ) and excess molar volumes ( VmE ) for the liquid binary systems of 1,4 Dioxane, Styrene, Chloroform, THF, and N,N-Dimethylformamide are presented. These correlations evidence the complex interdependency between nE and VmE are graphed and the data are fitted to Redlich-Kister polynomial.
