As a chapter of the American Chemical Society, we as SMACS at Augusta University seek to promote green chemistry through many of our events. We recognize that it is extremely vital to our society to make sure that the Earth is taken care of for our future. To accomplish this responsibility, our student chapter incorporates green chemistry into fun and educational events that attracts not only our student population but the community as well. One of our main educational events includes a talk during National Chemistry Week on the Green and Sustainability Chemistry.  In our presentation, we highlight what green chemistry is and the importance of not only commercial but personal involvement in sustainability through coordination with campus clubs and recycling efforts at Augusta University.  While educational outreach is very valuable, we try to organize events that are also fun and engaging for our student population. Some of the ways we do this are through coordinated events such as our annual tie dye event using sustainable, natural dyes.  We typically hold this event on Earth Day as a community wide event that brings in a larger audience than our normal student population.  At these events, we encourage participation while also conveying the importance of environmentalism. Our student chapter realizes that as scientists, it is often very strenuous to abide by completely green practices. However, through the education of our community and inciting small changes, we can help encourage our student body and community to “think green.”<br/>
