Drury University ACS student chapter organized three green chemistry events in 2018-19. Drury University started sustainability initiatives to reduce carbon footprint a decade ago. We wanted to start a campus wide initiative to convey the difference in sustainability and green chemistry and educate about the 12 principles of green chemistry. In previous years we did undergraduate labs that signify the importance of green chemistry but this year we hosted a scavenger hunt at the student union building open to all students in various disciplines. We also created an illustrative poster depicting green chemistry principles and discussed how green chemistry can be important in designing experiments to minimize waste and improve atom economy. Using the information available on the Green Chemistry website we also devised an activity where students were able to work on identifying greener alternatives to common household products. We specifically asked participants to replace the traditional products with a green product that they can incorporate in their daily life. All the activities were accessible using their phones and that helped us increase student participation and started a conversation on campus.
