The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) at the University of Tampa consists of students across several disciplines including chemistry, marine science, forensic science, and biology. The goals of SMACS include community outreach, exposure of students to academic research, and exploration of traditional and nontraditional career paths for students interested in the sciences. Over the past several years, our members have actively participated in outreach throughout the Tampa Bay community, including events for National Chemistry Week as well as demonstrations and instruction of chemical experiments with the Girl Scouts of America. SMACS also hosts career exploration events on campus such as the Chemistry Professional Pathways Forum, a formal question and answer panel featuring chemistry professionals with varying educational backgrounds. Additionally, SMACS hosts a resume building event in collaboration with campus Career Services and UT After Hours, an event for networking with local company representatives. Our presentation will discuss the activities and future directions of the organization as SMACS continues to flourish at the University of Tampa.
