NMR spectroscopy is an invaluable tool for the structural characterisation of metal-organic cages in solution but its application to the characterisation of paramagnetic cages has a number of challenges; the paramagnetic centres shorten the relaxation times so that structural information in the form of <i>J</i>-coupling is not observable due to broad linewidths and signal loss during acquisition from relaxation makes many standard pulse programs unsuitable. We present a suite of NMR methods for the characterisation of paramagnetic cages that are complementary to the standard suite of NMR methods for diamagnetic cages.
