<br/><br/>The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, to “make cities and human settlements safe, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable” is a crucial step towards achieving a socially and environmentally equitable global society. As outlined by the Sustainable Development Goals Knowledge Platform, public transportation is not a globally accessible service, particularly in developing nations. Many U.S. communities similarly lack accessible and efficient public transport, requiring those who can afford vehicles to rely on individual transportation that contributes to harmful carbon emissions, while those who are not as socioeconomically privileged experience a lesser standard of living. This presentation explores the discussions at the 25th Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP25) aimed at developing efficient and accessible public transport to alleviate global carbon emissions and provide a higher standard of living. In considering our infrastructural frameworks and urban planning methods, it aims to analyze the characteristics of successful transportation systems and provide strategies to implement accessible and environmentally-conscious networks.
