The presented optimization procedure is not bound to any physical model and requires a minimum input from the user. The algorithm allows to pursue three optimization strategies resulting in either short printing time, mechanical strength, or good cosmetic properties of the 3D printed object. The optimization procedure has been validated by 3D printing of commodity printing materials and in printing experiments of <i>in situ</i> small and wide-angle x-ray scattering methods employing synchrotron radiation. We investigated individual layers and the welding zone between individual layers deposited by FFF 3D printer which was custom-built to fit into the synchrotron beamline. The polymer microstructure was characterized in terms of crystallinity and long-spacings. These technological characteristics to facilitate the welding between the layers, i.e. to improve the overall mechanical performance of the 3D printed object was evaluated.
