In nearly every country around the world women and other underrepresented groups in STEM face higher barriers to success relative to their majority colleagues; barriers that deprive the world of an important source of talent. In 1997 a group of women chemists in the United States formed an organization called “COACh” with the goal of reducing these barriers and to also providing important mentoring, friendships and networking to help women and other underrepresented groups in their career advancement. This presentation will describe COACh, its programs and its successes in advancing the careers of ALL scientists in the U.S. and in developing countries around the globe. Over 20,000 scientists have participated in its career-building workshops that continue to be conducted at universities, professional meetings, research laboratories and companies to enable scientists and engineers to maximize their success and impact. It also works with academic departments, institutions and laboratories to help them provide an inclusive environment for everyone in the workplace.<br/>This presentation is a tribute to Dr. Lichter who provided the initial funding through the Dreyfus Foundation in 1998 and remained a strong supporter of COACh for the years that followed.
