The transport of ions and molecules in nanoconfined regions is an important field of study with applications in fuel cells, filtration, and neuroscience. We report here the results of our studies of the motion of neurotransmitter cations through a single-walled carbon nanotube. Specifically, we have studied the motion of two neurotransmitters, acetylcholine and choline. Their transport properties are compared to those of amino acid ions, alkali metal ions, and methanol through single-walled carbon nanotubes.
