The hypophosphite ([H2POO-]) anion represents a recent addition to the pantheon of molecular anions utilized in the synthesis of hybrid perovskites.1 However, the synthesis of metal hypophosphite crystals and characterization of the crystallographic structure of these compounds have yet to be thoroughly explored outside of a few examples in the literature. In addition, the production of crystallographic phases as a function of reaction time has not been examined in these systems. We present here the results of the crystallisation of manganese hypophosphites which result in different crystallographic phases depending on the time of recovery from the reaction solution. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the atomic arrangement of these phases at room temperature and a relationship between the symmetry of the crystal structures and the time to recovery from solution is drawn. The results herein demonstrate increasing dimensionality and density in these systems with increasing time to crystallization out of solution. These results are presented in the context of similar results from other systems of hybrid and inorganic coordination polymers.
