Bidentate diphosphine-based ligands (such as xantphos and xantphos-type ligands) have played a particularly important role in catalysis by late transition metals, such as hydrogenation, hydroformylation, cross-coupling and carbonylation. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of momomeric platinum and nickel dihydrides and their interconversion to dimeric bridging hydrido complexes.
