Mechanochemistry has emerged as a leading sustainable methodology in minimizing both solvents utilized and waste produced in chemical transformations. Minimizing waste is critical in actinide science due to the difficulty and cost associated with collecting, transporting, and ultimately storing radioactive waste. An overview of general principles of mechanochemistry will be provided, especially recent advances in the fundamental understanding of ball milling reactions including recently developed approaches of real time reaction monitoring for milling reactions. The potential of mechanochemical reactions will be discussed along with preliminary results which suggests mechanochemistry can be utilized for the synthesis of a wide variety of actinide based materials including uranyl peroxide clusters and actinide organic frameworks.  <br/>
