Plectrantus ambionicus, also known as Coleus ambionicus, is a semi-succulent perennial plant in the family Lamiaceae with a pungent oregano-like flavor and odor. It is found in the Southern and Eastern parts of Africa and is used as an herb and food additive. There are numerous studies that have shown that these plants have anti-inflammatory properties, but most other properties are not well known. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the compounds present in the plants that inhibit both Pythium and bacteria growth. The compounds were extracted from plant leaves and stems and purified by flash chromatography and thin-layer chromatography. The effectiveness of compounds was predicted by observing the inhibitory activity with Pythium and bacteria.
