This talk will discuss the incorporation of civic and political engagement activities into a 100-level Sustainable Chemistry general education course and an Organic Chemistry II course.  These activities allow students to gain an understanding of how chemistry knowledge can be used to effectively assist a community organization’s goals and to lobby local, state, and national representatives to address big issues relating to the environment.  As part of these courses, students research topics of local, regional, and national interest, identify pending legislation they wish to support or refute, work with students in communications studies and political science to prepare talking points, and attend a “lobby day” at the state legislature to present their findings.  We have also introduced local issues with an environmental tour led by an advocacy group and national issues with a trip to the ACS Green Chemistry Institute.<br/>
