Light harvesting molecular antennae are important for efficiently absorbing light across the ultraviolet and visible spectra to control excited state processes. Dipyrrin chromophores are typically noted for their intense molecular extinction coeffects, however there is a considerable gap between the ultraviolet and red-light wavelengths that allows the majority of light to pass through. By extending the chromophore conjugation to absorb more visible light we can increase the efficiency that light is collected. By substituting around the dipyrrin core with sufficiently conjugated and bulky substituents we have demonstrated that the ultraviolet region will extend into the visible, thus allowing more photons to be collected. Herein this poster, we will discuss the synthesis and complete characterization of these chromophores. We will explore how the substitution of these molecules their photophysical and electrochemical properties.
