Reproducibility, robustness, sustainability, and versatility are essential in the development of all types of analysis techniques, especially within undergraduate research considering limited funds and resources. Glucose biosensors are critical in both food analysis of sugar content and diagnosis of diseases, such as diabetes. Numerous variations of these biosensors have been explored based on UV-Vis absorbance and electrochemistry. This study attempted to utilize screen-printed carbon electrodes that are inexpensive, versatile, and commercially available to bring this method to an undergraduate lab. Enzymatic chronoamperometry currents are known to be proportionally related to the concentration of glucose. While carbon screen-printed electrodes are useful in undergraduate research, some of the benefits of these electrodes compromise the accuracy and reliability of the electrochemical output. Optimizations of this chronoamperometric technique will be presented.
