Yttrium indium/manganese oxides can be doped to alter the YIn1-xMnxO3 crystal structure. This results in a multitude of colors, but this research focused on blue pigments in particular. The color change is attributed largely to the shortening or elongating of the indium/manganese bonds to the surrounding oxygen atoms. Also, this research focused on finding which dopants, Gd, Eu, or Ti for example, created the most thermally reflective compounds. YIn0.84Mn0.08Gd0.08O3, YIn0.84Mn0.08Eu0.08O3, and YIn0.92Mn0.08O3 have thus far been the most vibrant and thermally reflective. The UV resistance of these pigments when mixed with binders and turned into paint was analyzed. The thermal reflectance was measured using the ISR-603 Integrating Sphere Attachment for the Shimadzu UV-VIS-NIR Spectrophotometer UV-3600Plus.
