Tetraarylazadipyrrin chromophores are the core of aza-BODIPY dyes. These highly conjugated molecules have strong π-π* transition states and are an intense deep-blue or black color with their λmax found around the 600-700 nm range. This poster highlights the synthesis and characterization of these molecules including steady state and time resolved emission spectroscopy as well as the electrochemical studies for the oxidation and reduction potentials of these dyes as the metal free molecules, and in the presence of coordinating metals such as zinc, copper, silver and scandium. Spectroelectrochemistry of these complexes were performed to observe the reduced and oxidized spectra. This work highlights the preliminary investigations into new chromophore designs which can be used for multi-responsive materials.
