Indanone moiety a very studied moiety for recent years, present a ring fusion between cyclopentanone and benzene. This moiety has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of many different types of known drugs and pharmacological active compounds, like donepezil, which is used in the treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. Because of its wide range in therapeutic activities, Indanone became an interesting compound for the medicinal chemistry and drug development research. In previous work in our laboratory, ferrocenyl indanone was synthesized, and its biological properties were studied, presenting moderate activity as antimalarial and anti-breast cancer (MDA-MB-231 cell line) agents. Based on this work, we aim to prepare ferrocenyl indanones with bromine, chlorine, fluorine, hydroxide and methoxy groups as substituents. These groups, when connected to an indanone, have shown activity as anti-cancer, anti-Alzheimer, antibacterial (against some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria’s), anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial agents. The same methodology used for the unsubstituted ferrocenyl indanone was used for the synthesis of these eight novel substituted ferrocenyl indanones, which entails a base catalyzed Claisen-Schmidt reaction starting with ferrocenyl carboxaldehyde and the desired indanone. All the products are novel and most of them were purified by recrystallization. The products were obtained with good yields, ranging from 71 to 90 %. The eight compounds were characterized by <sup>1</sup>H, <sup>13</sup>C NMR, and IR spectroscopy, also in some cases, the X-Ray crystallographic structure was obtained. The complete synthetic, and characterization conditions of the products will be presented; also their biological activity as radical scavenging and anti-breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) cell line will be elaborated.
