New platinum(II) terpyridine complexes were synthesized by the reaction platinum(II) terpyrdine, silver trifluoromethanesulfonate, and nitrogen-based ligands in 1:1 ligand to metal mole ratio. Four different ligands including theophylline, acetamide, imidazole and 1,3-diaminopropane were used in our study. Complexes were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, elemental analysis and x-ray crystallography. The potential use of these complexes as antitumor agents will also be discussed.
