A new nanocomposite material was synthesized for the fabrication of electrode material for bioanode. It was applied in enzymatic biofuel cells (EBFCs). EBFCs produce electrical energy from green and renewable fuels, by utilizing redox enzyme. However, the main issue of low power output and stability of the electrode still prevails in this field. Extensive research is going on to overcome this problem by improving the electrical communication between enzyme and current collector. In this study, a new platform was made of nanocomposite composed of functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (f-Fe3O4 NPs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in polyaniline matrix for the immobilization of enzyme, and facilitation of efficient electron transfer between enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx) and electrode surface. The rGO/PANI/f-Fe3O4 nanocomposite was examined by analytical techniques viz, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the electrochemical behaviour of the rGO/PANI/f-Fe3O4 nanocomposite. The rGO/PANI/f-Fe3O4/Frt/GOx bioanode was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) for its redox properties. The function bioanode was optimized for linear response of detection of glucose. The maximum current density obtained by the modified bioanode was found to be 39.5 mA cm-2 at the limiting glucose concentration of 60 mM in potassium ferrocyanide electrolyte at a scan rate of 100 mVs−1.
