Polymer nanostructures often determine the final performance and application of the materials. In this talk, we will discuss using evaporative crystallization to control the polymeric nanostructures. First, we will show that polymer nanofibers can be surface modified by controlled crystallization. Periodic nanofiber shish kebab structures were fabricated with controlled size and periodicity. Secondly, controlled evaporative crystallization was used to modify polymer scaffold fabricated by additive manufacturing. In both cases, we show that modified surface plays a pivotal role in cell-scaffold interaction. Lastly, we will discuss the classical porous poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membranes typically fabricated by the phase inversion process. While it is generally understood that the morphology of porous PVDF membranes is dictated by the competition between liquid-liquid phase separation and PVDF crystallization, little work has been devoted to understanding the crystallization process in the phase inversion system, and how PVDF crystallization adversely affects the membrane morphology. We will show that PVDF can be intrinsically porous upon crystallization, and such a unique structure therefore provides another level of control for polymer membranes.<br/>
