Variations of the parent compound calcium cobalt oxide were synthesized by mixing appropriate stoichiometries of the precursors calcium carbonate and cobalt oxide powders. Compositions were systematically varied centered on a calcium:cobalt molar ratio of 3:4. Samples were initially annealed in a box furnace at 900 degrees Celsius for 24 hours to promote the reaction. Samples were then pressed into pellets, followed by additional annealing steps under varying conditions. The influence of the composition and annealing conditions on the electrical properties was explored by measuring the electrical resistivity of the pellets along with the Seebeck coefficient.
