The thiol-ene coupling (TEC) is widely applied in materials chemistry to photoinititate thiol-ene polymerization on a surface. The methodology to reliably install a thioether bond has valuable potential applications to diversify biocojugation options at cysteine residues; however, prior TEC protocols have typically relied on inorganic photocatalysts, organic solvents, or UV light. A biocompatible TEC methodology using an organic photocatalyst and visible light has been developed to advance the studies of TEC bioconjugation. Using our modified procedure, model thioether bonds have been formed between alkene substrates and thiol-containing biomolecules, including a small library of cysteine containing peptides.<br/>
