Copper(I) is a relatively inexpensive metal ion that is utilized in photoluminescent applications, such as organic light-emitting diodes and molecular oxygen sensors. Our research interest is on synthesizing a novel Cu(I)-NHC complex using 1-pyridine-2-ylmethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazolylidene. Based on preliminary results, there is evidence that we synthesized our intended complex, with emission within expected wavelengths of 350-600nm. The yellow-green light emitted under longwave UV light also falls within literature observations. Further NMR solution studies and solid-state single-crystal x-ray diffraction experiments will verify the formation of the carbene and shed light on the geometry of the complex.
