Carbon-carbon bond formation is essential for most organic chemists within their synthetic toolbox. Its importance lies in applications in medicinal, petrochemical, and other industries. The focus of this research has been to expand the utility of classical synthetic routes such as, developing a Claisen reaction that uses crude material under soft enolization conditions towards 1,3 dicarbonyls and utilization of Umpolung-like chemistry towards α-alkylation of ketones via azo-alkenes. Through our methodology development we will help provide organic chemists more synthetic options towards carbon-carbon bond formation.
