The field of laser diagnostics aims to develop noninvasive measurement techniques for variables within a given system. The use of a laser rather than a physical instrument such as a probe allows for measurements with greater accuracy and in a greater range of environments. Recently, nanocrystals--more specifically quantum dots--have been implemented in laser diagnostics to map variables such as temperature through the use of laser induced fluorescence (LIF). While the optical characteristics of quantum dots have been thoroughly established, other types of nanocrystals with similar advantages remain generally optically uncharacterized. One such example are perovskites. Despite having similar characteristics to quantum dots and being notably easier to synthesize, their applications in laser diagnostics have remained generally unexplored. The optical properties of perovskites, specifically the relationship between fluorescence and temperature, were analyzed. A positive relationship between the emission intensity ratio and temperature was observed for perovskites of various sizes, showing potential for applications in temperature mapping and thermometry.
