We have isolated a family lanthanide complexes (Ce, Nd, Sm, and Er) with a series of aromatic N-oxides. We would like to further tune by varying the precursor, pH of the reaction to isolate new polynuclear metal complexes for the possible application in single-molecule magnetism (SMM). We will explore varying synthesis conditions, ligands of different denticity, and the effects on SMM. The N-oxide compounds are of interest because they can be derivatized with various binding modes, such as monodentate, bis bridging, or as a simple oxide bridge between two metals. Herein, we present the results of the structural, spectroscopic, and magnetic analyses of the family of lanthanide complexes.
