The combination of high temperature, excellent thermo-oxidative stability, easy processing and demand for more complex structures requires novel chemistries. State-of-the-art thermosetting polyimides are difficult to process, typically via hand-lay up of prepregs. In addition most of the exiting in-situ monitoring techniques fail at the high temperatures these materials are used.  Design and synthesis of thermosetting resins with the required architecture that meets all these requirements will be discussed, including molecularly integrated sensing via strain responsive moeities that retain functionality even at extreme temperatures upwards 300C.
