Undergraduate research in our laboratory at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus, is based on the integration of multidisciplinary concepts and principles. Green chemistry plays a key role to develop innovative strategies for research in the production of nanomaterials and further toxicological and pharmacological studies. Plants are a good source of material to begin an investigation, particularly, when the chemical profile of plants enhances the opportunities for applied chemistry research. Consequently, we are developing a web site with significant opportunities to gather information for pharmacognosy, nanotechnology and ethnobotanical studies. The multiple programming languages that are used include: HTML, CSS, SQL and PHP, that among other things, will assist in the transitions of the different screens to present the information. The site will be based on information on morphology, taxonomy, distribution, chemical profile, uses and references of native and introduced plants of research potential and cultural and traditional significance in Puerto Rico. Additionally, it will include a glossary of terms. This is a continuous effort to establish a network of collaborations to enhance the globalization of plant resources in applied chemistry research.
