The misuse and abuse of drugs have been a known problem affecting our society for years. Our goal is to help with the identification and detection of accessible drugs that affect our society. Nanoparticles provide new technology for the detection of narcotics, anabolics and other substances in urinalysis. Our work is based in the development of more efficient and sensitive sensors that will help with drug detection. In this research we modified the surface of silver nanoparticles (AgNps) and gold nanoparticles (AuNps) by varying the pH and surface charge to increase the binding of the chosen drugs with the nanoparticle surfaces. The studies were carried out with nanoparticles from 15 to 40 nm. Pamabrom, Orphenadrine and Nabumetone were the applied drugs for our studies. AgNps and AuNps serve as a presumptive test like colorimetric assay. The localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) provides us a tool to study the interaction between the drugs and the nanoparticles. Characterization of these nanoparticles was performed using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and Diffracted Light Scattering (DLS). We found a characteristic change in color between the interaction of the drugs, diuretics and nanoparticles. Microcrystalline tests were performed in the past with caffeine and nicotine where we found a change in shape of the crystal growth. This test will also be applied to the new drugs that are being tested. The LSPR showed a red shift after the binding with the drugs and an evident change in color of the samples. Therefore, the present study indicates that the combination of the nanoparticles with the selected drugs and diuretics works for the development of our outer body more sensitive and effective drug detection sensor.<br/>
