After achieving tenure, new associate professors have the opportunity to plan their first sabbatical. While general advice on this process is available through online resources, there are no clear-cut guidelines on how or where to arrange your sabbatical or what to do during this period. This presentation will provide advice on how to choose a sabbatical location and host, inquire about funding opportunities, use the sabbatical to successfully establish long-term collaborations, and build a global network. These days, more faculty members are considering international sabbaticals to not only establish new collaborations, but also experience new cultures. However, early-career faculty members may not be too familiar with international universities and often rely on global rankings, conferences, and publications to identify potential hosts, complicating efforts to find the best opportunities. At the same time, many universities are ramping up their internationalization efforts, leading to new opportunities for faculty to fund their sabbatical program. These funds can offset some of the costs associated with 12-month sabbaticals, wherein faculty typically receive 50% of their salary. During sabbatical, faculty must carefully balance engagement with their hosts and new collaborators and management of their own students and ongoing projects. If successful, the sabbatical can play a crucial role in helping associate professors develop an international reputation, which is often considered an essential criterion for promotion to full professor. Ultimately, a successful international sabbatical will lead to new opportunities to conduct global research, recruit strong students, and experience new cultures.<br/>
