Geometrically frustrated materials allow for unusual magnetic states, such as the quantum spin liquid state. These phenomena are widely studied, with potential applications in the field of quantum computing. The pyrochlore family, which has the form A2B2O7, has geometrically frustrated A and B sublattices, consisting of corner-sharing tetrahedra. Many pyrochlore compounds only exist as metastable phases at low temperatures. By using partial substitution, one can make versions of these pyrochlores that are able to exist even at high temperatures. Here, the first crystal growth and study of magnetic properties is reported for the family Mg2Ta3Ln3O14 (Ln=Lanthanide Series). The family is synthesized via solid state reaction, upon which crystals can be grown using the floating zone method with the laser diode floating zone. Solving for the structure using Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction shows that the chemical formula, originally reported to be Mg2TaLnO6, is actually Mg2Ta3Ln3O14. Magnetization measurements show Curie-Weiss paramagnetic response for the family, except for the Eu member which shows Van Vleck paramagnetism. The family has been further expanded to be M2Ta3Ln3O14(M=Zn, Co, Mn), synthesized in powder form. These results show the ability to expand the current accessibility of the pyrochlore phase using partial substitution.
