In recent years, the use of pre-workout prior to working out has become increasingly popular. These pre-workout powders are essentially a mix of caffeine and other performance-enhancing additives. Unfortunately, these powders are not regulated by the FDA so their effects on human health have not been determined. The aim of this project is to accurately determine the caffeine concentration in a standard serving of popular pre-workout powders. Two methods of analysis (HPLC and UV-Vis) will be employed in the analysis. Standard addition of pure caffeine coupled with a calibration curve will be used to determine caffeine in the samples. Statistical analysis will be employed to determine the differences in the methods employed.
