Corrosion of AISI 316 stainless steel in 1 M perchloric acid was investigated by the potentiodynamic method at room temperature. In figure 1, current-voltage curves for pure acid and in the presence of benzotriazole as a corrosion inhibitor are shown.<br/>It can be seen that the curves are shifted to the cathode side and the cathode currents decrease more than the anode currents with increasing inhibitor concentration. Therefore, benzotriazole is an inhibitor of cathodic action.<br/>Corrosion currents, corrosion rates and inhibition efficiencies at various concentrations of benzotriazole are given in the table.
