However the replication rate of algal biomass during an algal bloom, for example, of blue green "algae" cyanobacteria, more energy than could be available solely through photosynthesis to synthesize cell mass at the supposed replication rate. Analysis of data gathered at that USGS station, and at nearby wastewater dischargers and water supply purveyors suggests that the contents of algal cells that leak or remain after cells die may allow the replication rates to be achieved without synthesis from scratch.
