Inorganic vapors at high temperatures can be quite complex—containing unexpected oxidation states, inorganic polymers, and other complex species [1]. The high-temperatures of cool stars, brown dwarfs, and of hot, rocky exoplanets promote an atmosphere containing these vapors. Further, the low f(O<sub>2</sub>) in these atmospheres promotes low oxidation states of the metal components. In this paper we survey the classes of high temperature vapors. According to Brewer’s rules [2], the entropy term of the free energy expression dominates at higher temperatures and indicates that polymers (e.g. C<sub>n</sub>; n = 1-7) and other complex species are actually favored at high temperatures. Examples are given from observations and predictions of high temperature inorganic vapors in the atmosphere of cool stars, brown dwarfs, and hot exoplanets.
