Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of inorganic crystalline materials that show high degree of synthetic tunability due to the range of potential metal nodes and organic linkers. MOFs have potential in a wide range of potential applications, including heterogeneous catalysts. Homogenous catalysts can be incorporated into the MOF backbone and retain the catalytic activity seen in solution. The new catalyst-loaded MOF can be finely tuned and easily recycled, offering benefits from both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. The UiO series has been heavily investigated due to their high stability and use of phenyl-based linkers which can be easily substituted with polypyridyl groups common in organometallic catalysts. A ruthenium-based catalyst Ru(tpy)(bpy) (tpy = 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) was incorporated into UiO-67 and showed activity for diffusion-limited electrochemical water oxidation.<br/>
