The Ugi-Smiles reaction is a one-pot multicomponent coupling used to assemble functionalized <i>N</i>-aryl amides. Use of acyclic conjugated aldehyde components in the presence of alcoholic solvents led to observation of a novel five-component oxa-Michael Ugi-Smiles reaction. Current efforts are focused on examination of the scope of the reaction through use of related thiol components.  <br/>
