This presentation is an overview of radiochemistry in complex systems ranging from groundwater to radioactive waste processing streams.  These systems are far from ideal, and often involve concentrated electrolytes.  Using multi-modal experimental approaches that include a strong theoretical foundation is resulting in a remarkable ability to understand behavior and chemical dynamics of ions in these systems.  This knowledge is being applied to enable new approaches to radioactive waste processing and environmental monitoring.
